THE WORLD OF K-DRAMAS: AUG 2024 PREMIERES

There are a large number of dramas of all types dropping this month.  There are several more that will begin in Korea, but don’t have a streaming connection in the US yet.

Bad Memory Eraser [나쁜 기억 지우개] (Streaming on Netflix, Viki)

Cast: Kim Jae-joong, Jin Se-yeon, Lee Jong-won, Yang Hye-ji

This is a rom-dram about a once promising tennis player whose life changes due to a memory eraser and a neuropsychiatrist trying to reset his traumatic memories.  Trailer

Love Andante [사랑의 안단테] (Streaming August 7th on Kocowa)

Cast: Kwon Hyun-bin, Song Ji-woo

In this drama, North Korea and South Korea create a “Peace Village” to test reunification. A South Korean pianist and the daughter of a high-ranking North Korean official are mistakenly assigned to live together. Trailer

Romance in the House [가족X멜로] (Streaming August 10th on Netflix)

Cast: Ji Jin-hee, Kim Ji-soo, Son Naeun, Minho, Sanha

This drama tells the story of a man who was divorced by his wife 11 years ago when his business collapsed, and his ex-wife who raised her two children.  Trailer

Your Honor [유어아너] (Streaming August 12 on Viki)

Cast: Son Hyun-joo, Kim Myung-min, Kim Do-hoon, Heo Nam-jun, Jung Eun-chae

This drama is about a judge, a man of strong beliefs and a sense of justice, and a ruthless crime boss with a cold demeanor who both turn monstrous to protect their children.  Trailer

The Tyrant [폭군] (Streaming August 14 on Disney+)

Cast: Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho, Kim Kang-woo, Jo Yoon-soo

This is a chase action drama that unfolds after the final sample from a program called the “Tyrant Program” disappears due to a delivery mishap. This sets off a chain of pursuits involving individuals with different motives, each competing to secure the sample. Trailer

Perfect Family [완벽한 가족] (Streaming August 14 on Viki)

Cast: Kim Byung-chul, Yoon Se-ah, Kim Young-dae, Park Ju-hyun, Yoon Sang-hyun, Choi Ye Bin, Lee Si Woo, Kim Do Hyun, Kim Myung Soo

Based on a popular webtoon, this is a mystery drama where a seemingly happy and perfect family begin to suspect each other when their daughter becomes entangled in a murder.  Trailer

Black Out [백설공주에게 죽음을] (Airs August 16 – US streaming platform not known)

Cast: Byun Yo-han, Go Joon, Go Bo-gyeol, Kim Bo-ra

Adapted from the best-selling German mystery novel “Snow White Must Die,” this is a crime thriller drama that follows the story of a young man accused of murder in a mysterious case where no corpses were found. 11 years later, he sets out on a journey to uncover the truth of that fateful day.

DNA Lover [DNA러버] (Streaming August 17 on Viki)

Cast: Choi Siwon, Jung In-sun, Lee Tae-hwan, Jung Yoo-jin

This is a new rom-com about a genetic researcher who has been through countless failed relationships. As she searches for her destined partner through genes, she winds up becoming entangled with a sensitive obstetrician.

Love Next Door [엄마친구아들] (Streaming August 17th on Netflix)

Cast: Jung Hae-in, Jung So-min, Kim Ji-eun, Yun Ji-on

This is a rom-com about a woman who tries to reboot her troubled life after it goes awry, and her mom’s friend’s son, who grew up together in the same neighborhood.  They later reunite as adults.  Trailer
