KOREAN COMMUNITY NEWS - SEPT 2024
KOREAN COMMUNITY NEWS
BY EUN BYOUL OH
For Chuseok, we eat a lot of food. A LOT OF FOOD.
We cook a lot of food, eat a lot of food, and have a lot of leftovers.
So, for this month in the Korean-American community, we brought some news about food!
This year, on September 8th, Long Island City Partnership hosted its first Korean Fest at Culture Lab LIC.
Korea Fest was the first NYC based Korean food festival, and there were many vendors at the event. The event brought awareness of the variety of Korean food available in NYC. Food is a big part of Korean Culture, and in our classes we always talk about Korean food.
The event’s instagram page (@korea.fest) has the list of vendors who participated in the event. Please check it out to start your own adventure of Korean food!
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT SOUTH KOREAN ADOPTION INVESTIGATION
BY SHARON STERN
PBS (The Public Broadcasting System) and AP (Associated Press) have just put out an episode of the program FRONTLINE that explores the fraud and abuse in the foreign adoption system of South Korea. The episode is available to be viewed online on the PBS website and there are links to additional articles on the subject. It is a difficult documentary to watch, but it is important to know the truth about this subject that is at the heart of the Korean diaspora community. We encourage you to watch this episode of FRONTLINE.
