LETTER FROM THE EDITOR - VOL.4
KCCNYC Monthly - Vol. 4
By Eun Byoul Oh
I hope everyone had a great Chuseok (Hangawi) Holiday!
Every year, Chuseok either falls in September or October, depending on when August 15 falls in the Lunar Calendar. For an explanation on the linguistic origins of the word 한가위, check out our instagram post! @koreancc_nyc
In Korea, to celebrate Chuseok, families gather around to eat Songpyeon (송편), and commemorate our ancestors with charye (차례). We remember those who are no longer with us during the holidays. However, Chuseok is also a very happy holiday to cherish those who we consider families.
As the Korean diaspora community celebrates Chuseok in different countries, we remind ourselves of our Korean identity. Whether you are reading this newsletter in the U.S., or even elsewhere in the world, KCCNYC wishes everyone a very happy Chuseok.
In this September newsletter, our team celebrates the happiness and bountifulness of Chuseok with everyone in the KCCNYC community. Furthermore, we commemorate those who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. As a non-profit organization based in NYC, KCCNYC will never forget the victims, the survivors of the attack, and all the surviving families of the victims. The first responders of FDNY and NYPD will be forever in our hearts.
Lastly, we welcome everyone who newly joined our KCCNYC community this Fall semester! I want to also extend my appreciation to our returning students who continue to support our mission to celebrate Korean language and Korean Culture. 만나서 반갑습니다!
감사합니다.
